Navigating the Future of the Colorado River & Collective Strategies for Water Sustainability
Decades of severe drought and excessive water use are depleting the Colorado River, which has put the basin’s states at a crossroads.
The upper and lower basin states have different interests and visions regarding growth, yet they all depend on this vital water resource. Enrique Vivoni, Director of the Center for Hydrologic Innovations at Arizona State University and a member of the HECHO Hispanic Conservation Leadership Council talks about the importance of collective thinking and confronting scenario models with observations on a daily, weekly, or quarterly basis to address the major challenges facing the Colorado River today and in the future.
He was a panelist in a session at the 2024 Colorado River Water Users Association (CRWUA) Conference titled “Working Outside the Edge Pieces: Extreme Weather Events and What We Can Do About Them.”
